Now playing:   Britten - Suite for Harp, Nocturne

  1. As a dedicated teacher and musician, Màiri provides an excellent Harp curriculum for her students. She believes in all-round musicianship skills so alongside Harp technique tuition she includes aural work, ensemble skills, composition and secure rhythmic ability.

She has many private pupils taught on a

one-to-one basis, usually for an hour each

week, but can tailor to the needs of the individual depending on their age, level or specific goal. Màiri encourages a healthy balance of reading music notation and learning completely by ear (oral tradition). She uses the ABRSM Harp syllabus for exams but has a firm grip of the Trinity syllabus too, should that be a preferred method of examination.

Màiri has extensive experience in running workshops across many areas of education. She has run Harp workshops for solo work, ensemble skills and lever skills within the Clàrsach society throughout the UK. She also directed Na Clàrsairean in 2005. She was also actively involved with the RNCM Community Outreach projects such as the RNCM Summer School (2007-2009) and the GCSE composition workshops.

Màiri is currently the Assistant Director of Music at Taunton Preparatory School in Somerset, teaching from Year 2 up to Year 8 in the classroom, tutoring Piano and Harp, conducting various choirs, accompanying for exams and concerts and leading a fun music theory club. She has previously held teaching posts at Wells Cathedral School, St. Edmund’s Arrowsmith (Wigan) and completed her teacher training within Greater Manchester. She is also a fully registered Secondary Music teacher with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Her experiences around Northern & South West schools contribute to her lively personality in the classroom, inspiring pupils daily with her enthusiasm and passion for music. She has introduced the Harp as a growing popular instrument across a wide range of schools, encouraging more disadvantaged pupils to take up the instrument when otherwise they may not have had access to the relatively expensive instrument.
