Màiri is not just any harpist........ she is an innovative harpist!

As an all-round musician, her eclectic range of instruments compliment her personality and enable her performing abilities to shine through

on any new challenge. She has combined with many musicians of varying styles, many of whom she continues to perform with today.

Read about her current projects......

The Concert Harp is mainly a classical instrument suitable for elegant or grand occasions such as weddings, dinner, receptions etc. Her extensive repertoire list also includes light classical and jazz/popular pieces such as Shania Twain, Take That & Led Zeppelin!

CLÀRSACH.....

The Scottish Celtic Harp is predominantly a traditional folk instrument used for scottish/irish tunes, accompanying folk/Gaelic songs or as a light background ambience for a small event (but can also be amplified to make more noise than the bagpipes!)

VOICE.....

My voice has only recently within the last few years become an important focal point of my performing. I am now branching into songs with english lyrics, having only ever sung in my native Gaelic language! I am also doing a lot more song-writing at the moment, working on a commission from An Comunn Gaidhealach for April & October performances this year.

TEACHING.....

Music and education go hand in hand together, exactly the same as Màiri and the harp do. Through one-to-one tuition, workshops, theory, aural & ensemble lessons, Màiri is passionate about exposing the harp to enhance the national curriculum and raise awareness of its growing enthusiasm as a popular instrument.

COMPOSING.....

Màiri has been an composer for over 10 years where the harp proves an important focus of her work. She is also confident at arranging almost any piece to suit the harp. She is active in research within this area.

COLLABORATIONS.....

Surely there can’t be any more time left?! Yet I seem to find it......! I really enjoy working with percussionist Ross Garrod and I’m now a member of the established band Jacob’s Pillow, having convinced my fiddle to come out of hiding! I’m also planning a collaboration with a flautist sometime soon.....

ETC......

Yes there’s more! In my “spare time” I love to adjudicate at festivals, mainly ‘Mods’ in Scotland (Gaelic Arts festivals) but I’m hoping to develop into mainstream music festivals in the future.! I am also trying to develop my music technology skills....... Watch this space........
